Growing up in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, I was an energetic, soccer obsessed kid, even after my family and I moved to Canada at the age of nine. Playing with numerous teams growing up really sparked my love for fitness. This led me to George Brown College, where I discovered another one of my passions – educating and helping others in their fitness journey. I graduated from the Fitness and Lifestyle Management Program (FLMP) in 2012. Following this, my personal journey has taken me to many places – from commercial gyms to community centres, to private clubs, to being a Spanish radio-show host, to corporate speaking, and now to owning and operating my own business. In 2022, I graduated with an Honours BA in Kinesiology and Health Science with a Certificate in Athletic Therapy from York University. Through this program, I expanded my knowledge and skills, deepening my love for human anatomy and physiology, learning how to help athletes and other members of my community through injury rehabilitation, and empowering my patients through evidence-informed practices.
Private & Small Groups
Whether you are working with Abel in a 1-on-1 setting or training in a small group (3-4 people), the focus will be on the journey to achieve your desired end results. After a thorough fitness assessment, Abel will develop a customized program, specifically designed with your goals, needs and injury history in mind.
Athletic Therapy: Clinical Services
This service is for patients requiring rehabilitation from acute or chronic injuries. Abel will conduct an injury assessment which involves an in-depth interview to determine the cause and severity of injury and physical limitations. The assessment is orthopedic in nature and is the basis for a tailored plan of action and any other medical interventions, if required. Note: Athletic Therapy may be covered under your Health Care Benefits.
Sporting Event Coverage
As a Certified Athletic Therapist and First Responder, Abel offers a range of services for your sporting events: Certified First Responder – Emergency Care and First Aid Preventative Taping and Bracing Concussion Management
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST)
FST is a pain-free stretching technique that uses constant circulatory, gentle oscillating movements of traction to decompress joints and expand space in soft connective tissue. This aims to increase overall range of motion in the joints, and also to increase kinesthesia (ease of movement), and proprioception (sense of one’s posture both when still and in movement).
“I had the pleasure of working with Abel when he was an Athletic Therapist for the York University Women’s Varsity Rugby team. Abel is incredibly knowledgeable about human performance, and that insight goes a long way into helping prepare the athletes ahead of training and games. He is excellent at connecting with individuals, which is critical in training and athletic therapy. He understands what each athlete needs to succeed and when their limits have been reached. He is a true team player, and I’d have him on any team in the future!”
